SOS

80% of lung cancers are caused by smoking; 80% of lung cancer victims die within 3 years, according to Heath Canada. Do you feel that the statistics are really frightening? In fact, cigarette smoking is a hot issue in the world that drive most governments headachable. There are plenty of debates, forums, etc about tobacco 's effects, but smoking is still happening day by day. A common question is whether prohibiting tobacco using as heroin consumption is the best solution or not. In my point of view, the cigarette smoking should be banned because of its terrible consequences.

First of all, smoking is very harmful to humans' health. To smokers, lung cancer, vascular disease, chronic bronchitis are three popular diseases that they hardly avoid and lung cancer is the most dangerous disease. According to Rofer Henderson (2009), cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, many of which have been identified as causing cancers. If a smoker consume more than 20 cigarettes a day, the risk of developing lung cancer is 30 to 40 times higher than others. For example, a man living next to my house used to be addicted to tobacco. Five months ago, he got long cough and pain in his chest. As a result, he was diagnosed lung cancer. Doctor said that he can only live within 5 years. Now, lying in the bed, he feel very sad and regretful. He is a bread-winner, how his family live without him. That is a poor story! Besides, smoking has effects to non-smokers. People who are around smokers also breathe tobacco smoke; of course, its toxic chemicals will "enter" their bodies. Scientists have proved that tobacco smoke can cause pneumonia, bronchitis, and ear infections for victims of the passive smoking especially for children. I remember at the age of 11, I had long cough for a long time. I took medicine so much but the symptom stay worse. My parents decided to take me to hospital. Doctor said that I had bronchitis because of the smoke effect of my father. After that my father determine to quit smoking to protect my family's health. Indeed, people are killed gradually by smoking; so, It is not good to smoke at all.

Secondly, smoking affects for our environment negatively.Firstly, there are about 4,000 chemicals found in cigarette smoke, which are exhaled and released in the air. It means that a huge mass of pollution have been being released in our atmosphere everyday. Next, smoking also harm to land and water. Millions of cigarette butts are discarded on the ground everyday and everywhere like on the grass, in the drains, on the pavements, etc. when it rain, the butts can be swept in the drains and end up in the drivers. If any animal or fish eat them, they hardly avoid death. Besides, poisonous chemicals in the butts can also pollute the soil and the plants. In addition, cigarette butts can cause fire especially in dry season. According to the American Burn Association, each year about 900 people in the UK die in fires started by cigarettes, about 2500 are injured, poverty costs of fires caused by careless smoking total about $ 6 billions. In brief, our environment is threatened seriously by smoking. It is high time for smokers think about what they did and change their minds.

Despite the bad effects of smoking, many people still keep smoking, they said that they feel comfortable, refreshed and pay more attention on their work after enjoying cigarettes. I agree that in some situations like you tired, stressful; perhaps, a cigarette can be a good medicine. However, have you ever thought about your health in the future? Almost each cigarette box has a warning " smoking is harmful to your health" on it. I am sure that you used to read the sentence before smoking. In the present, you feel better, but after 3 to 5 years and later It will cost you a lot of money to cure diseases caused by smoking . In addition, when you smoke cigarette, have you ever thought about feeling of others around you? My friends often say that they feel offensive and angry when standing near smokers. Obviously, tobacco smoke affects heath of non-smokers. If you are a husband,or a father you should think more about this problem to protect not only yourself but also your family.

In conclusion, I strongly disagree with cigarette smoking. Smoking causes dangerous diseases especially lung cancer, and secondhand smoke affects directly to people's health. Besides, environment is also polluted by tobacco. I hope that smokers will recognize these bad effects and quit smoking as soon as possible.

uniforms in schools

Today, most of the schools demand students wear uniforms in their own schools. Whether school uniforms are suitable for students or not. What benefits do they bring? Do they make our study better? Indeed, it is a controversial issue in our society. In my point of view, students should wear uniforms because of equality and practicality.

First of all, wearing uniforms helps students feel equal in their school. All of them begin at the same place; it is not distinguish they are poor or rich. For example, near my house, there is a class 3 pupil. Her family is so poor that she go to school with old casual clothes. Sometimes, I catch sight of that she cries ; and she complains with her mother " my friends tease me, my clothes! They play away from me. I am envious with them." After that her mother realize it and let her go to school with a tiny, new uniform. Now, that girl get along with her classmates and always come back home with a smile in her face. Indeed, students will feel self-confident because there is no distance between them, and they can be really friends to each other under one school roof.

Secondly, it is practical to wear uniforms. First, school government has spent a lot of time on designing suitable uniforms so that students can wear them and study comfortably all day. Besides, it does not take us time to think of what to wear every day. Only spending a few minutes every morning, students can have an uniform on and also feel proud of labels bearing their school's name. In addition, wearing uniforms are also a practical solution to reduce unsuitable dressing in school. Obviously, a part of students have a tend to wear fashionable, colorful clothes, mini skirts even sexy clothes at school. They want to show their own styles, but it is not good at all. Do they go to school or go on catwalk? Therefore, we often have a positive look with those who have tidy, nice uniforms on.

Many students say that they like wearing casual clothes because they have freedom of choice in colors, size, and fashion. I agree that they will be nicer with such clothes specially in parties, holidays, etc. However, in school, if each student has each style, school will become disorder. And then, it is easy to lose beauty and discipline of school. In addition, their job are learning, whether colorful, fashionable clothes can improve their knowledge or not. In the end, uniforms are better than any casual clothes at school.

In conclusion, I strongly approve that students wear uniforms in school. It not only brings students feeling of equality but also makes practicality. Uniforms create beauty and discipline for school. I hope that students who hate wearing uniforms realize that and change their minds after reading these pages.

Effects of flood in our society

Viet Nam is a country with abundant natural resources, annually Red River and Me Kong River bring the enormous alluvial deposits for our country to develop agriculture. However, they also cause many natural phenomenon especially floods. When the rivers are in flood stage, people must suffer from destruction even loss their lives. Indeed, floods cause many negative effects in our society. In my point of view, there are three main effects of flood: physical damage, casualties, and economic decrease.

The first consequence of floods is physical damage. The power of water flow can swallow anything on their trip. They can destroy any type of structure including bridges, dikes, houses, buildings, sewer systems, fields, etc. Besides, floods often go with storms. It is hard for anything to exist in such bad conditions. In fact, in 1999, residents in central Viet Nam suffered from a terrible flood. As a result, their furniture and property were carried away by the water; their houses and gardens were swamped into the river. Thousands of people had seen their homes and rice fields destroyed.

Secondly, floods also cause many casualties. First, people and live stock die due to drowning. Some lucky people can live on their roof or cling certain logs to drift along the water and hope emergency aid. Besides , people must face to shortages of foods; so, dying of hungry is also one of effects of flood. In addition, floods lead to dangerous diseases. Because water supplies are contaminated, clean drinking water become scare. In unhygienic water and foods conditions, water-borne diseases such as cholera, diarrheal, etc will able to spread rapidly. As a result, if people do not know how to protect themselves from those diseases, their lives will stay threatened on flooding days.

Finally, floods make our country's economy decreasing. When floods happen, officials will be responsible for evacuating the victims, organizing aids and delivering foods. It takes a lot of time and money on struggling against floods. As a result of floods, government spend a large of money on rebuilding infrastructures. Besides, in agriculture, lack of food crops can be caused due to loss of entire harvest. For example, flooding in Me Kong Delta will make rice-growing reduced dramatically. It affects on benefits both farmers and national economy.

In conclusion, flooding causes three main consequences including physical damage, casualties and economic decrease. we should recognize its effects to protect ourselves and government should process effective solutions to reduce floods.
